Plus, we’ve made Clinical Xchange flexible and scalable to accommodate any changes in healthcare technology in the future.
Clinical Xchange is a major system upgrade that
delivers unsurpassed clinical insight to Shared Health clinicians.
Actionable information is delivered at the point of care, aggregated
from multiple Plans, from practice systems, labs, pharmacies – even
patients. Now more than ever, clinicians will be more efficient when
seeing patients and can avoid the types of redundancies and “paper
chase” that
drive up overall healthcare costs. It’s all about meeting customers’ needs – by
providing health IT solutions that are flexible, innovative and interoperable
with other health care applications regardless of the health IT vendor
being utilized. New patient diagnostic, prescribing and clinical
analytic features of Clinical Xchange include:
- WellChild;
- Shared Health ePrescribe®; and
- The Shared Health CHR™
…and coming soon: - Problem List;
- Care Opportunities™;
- Condition Tracker; and
- Clinical Insight™.
Clinical Xchange Accelerates Your Path to ROI
Clinical Xchange delivers features and functionality that directly address the most vexing problems clinicians face – lack of usable clinical tools, incomplete patient medical information, redundant paperwork, inefficient workflow and voluminous recordkeeping. Payers reap the cost savings from more streamlined care delivery, earlier diagnosis and treatment, efficient recordkeeping, and reductions in unnecessary tests and treatments. Clinical Xchange is also an excellent fit for the management of value based programs and performance reporting.

What Shared Health does for states and governments
Shared Health can reduce overall health care costs by sharing health information through an easy-to-use system that communicates with a variety of different audiences—including clinicians, pharmacies, and patients. Shared Health enables clinicians’ visibility across a patient's multiple episodes of care, giving them greater insight into the appropriate treatment process.
All state and local government populations can participate in Shared Health. This includes state Medicaid populations as well as health plans which cover government employees. The members of the State of Tennessee’s Medicaid program are participants in Shared Health and have lead the state’s efforts to give all individuals access to an Electronic Health Record. Shared Health is also scalable to cover other states and commercial programs throughout America. Members of any population, on an individual basis, can choose to opt out of Shared Health. At the present time, less than .1% has elected to do so.
The value gained by implementing Shared Health can be measured both quantitatively and qualitatively. A recent study showed that clinicians using Shared Health gained a 17% improvement in efficiency in their workflow and services. Efficiencies were achieved in pharmacy, facility, and ancillary areas, enhancing quality and enabling better patient outcomes. States and governments who offer Shared Health can promote more efficient care across the entire population and assist in controlling the largest portion of most states' budgets.
Participating in Shared Health is both a valuable benefit for consumers and a powerful signal that governments, on all levels, remain committed to making advancements to improve health care in America.
What Shared Health does for insurers
Shared Health provides an easy way to lower overall health care costs and provide better patient care. It’s a benefit you can offer consumers that adds value to any coverage plan.
With the information kept in the Shared Health Clinical Health Record®, (CHR) clinicians are able to review medical encounter data and pharmacy claims data. In addition, Shared Health enables physicians to eliminate redundant tests and access accurate records of lab results, immunizations, and patient allergy information.

A recent study showed that clinicians using Shared Health gained a 17% improvement in efficiency in their workflow and services. Insurers who offer Shared Health can promote more efficient care across their entire population and assist in controlling the increasing trend in medical costs.
Shared Health manages a customized provider education and training program to allow clinicians to utilize the system within the context of their existing workflow. The Shared Health Clinical Outreach staff facilitates the utilization of the program, which allows the benefits to be realized among all stakeholders.
How Shared Health works for clinicians
Registering and using the Shared Health system is free and easy. Since our system is web-based, all you need is a PC with an Internet connection, and you can get started. No cost required.
Shared Health has a dedicated Clinical Outreach Team who will train clinicians and their staff to use the Shared Health Clinical Health Record® (CHR). Once a practice is using Shared Health, clinicians can see an “expanded” view of a patient’s medical history, providing insight beyond the walls of an individual practice.
Users of the Shared Health system have the ability to customize the way they view and input data in the manner that best suits their particular needs. In order to maintain levels of security and privacy, there are different levels of access for different personnel, based on roles and responsibilities.
Shared Health ePrescribe® is an online application that allows authorized clinicians to write and submit end-to-end electronic prescriptions. The ePrescribe tool automatically alerts clinicians of possible drug-drug and drug-allergy interactions during the prescribing process, and filling prescriptions is easier and safer because there is no handwriting to decipher.
How Shared Health works for consumers
Consumers can access the Shared Health Clinical Heath Record® (CHR) when an employer or health insurance company offers Shared Health as a benefit. Eligible consumers can view their CHR by logging on to sharedhealth.com, clicking “Register,” and following the link for Consumer Registration.
mySharedHealth™ is a portal that allows registered consumers to view the same information their clinicians are accessing within the CHR.
A Shared Health Clinical Health Record can serve as a “health historian.” Visiting a new doctor or specialist is easier than ever. Consumers won’t have to memorize their entire medical history, how many medications they may currently be taking, or their child’s immunization records.
In case of emergencies, a Shared Health Clinical Health Record can be vitally important. Emergency Department (ED) personnel can use the information in the Shared Health system in the event a patient can’t communicate for themselves or a family member isn’t present to communicate on their behalf.
Plus, getting prescriptions filled is easier than ever with Shared Health ePrescribe®. Our tool allows doctors to electronically prescribe medications, and it identifies drug-drug and drug-allergy interactions during the prescribing process. With ePrescribe, providers can send prescriptions directly to pharmacies, where they can be accurately filled without the fear of legibility concerns.
How Shared Health works with other computer networks
Information Technology is the backbone of how Shared Health delivers value to all stakeholders. Our system is a standards-based data model, which supports interoperability and allows us to receive and send information to and from a variety of sources. It also allows us to provide services on a nationwide scale.
Shared Health is committed to standards as set forth by the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) that allow disparate computer networks to communicate with one another in order to exchange critical health information. This includes not only individual clinician practices, but hospitals, health systems, and Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOS) as well. Shared Health is adhering to these standards so that the realization of a National Health Information Network (NHIN) can be achieved.
Security and privacy are foremost in the minds of clinicians, consumers, and health care payers. They are also of utmost importance to Shared Health. Our system has a number of safeguards in place to control user access and protect data in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. These safeguards include single-user unique logons and passwords, inactivity time-outs, different access levels for different user groups, and logging of all user activity.
